Hi! We are the Tomlin family! Michael, Whitney, Charlee, and Beckham.
Michael and I just celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary! We got married when we were 19 and 21 years old, after dating for a whopping 5 months. No, you didn’t read that wrong! We moved from Alabama to Florida after about 2 years of marriage because I always knew I wanted to raise kids here. I got pregnant with our daughter, Charlee (who is now six!) And she was born in July 2013. I had a wonderful pregnancy and I was ready to be pregnant many more times!
Unfortunately, immediately after delivering Charlee, I hemorrhaged and after numerous blood transfusions and almost dying, I had to go in for an emergency hysterectomy at only 23 years old. I remember waking up and being told what happened and being told I would never have anymore kids. The grief and heartbreak I faced for the next few years is something I will never be able to explain. Michael and I had always wanted to adopt, but OUR plan was to have a few biological babies, and then adopt our last baby. I am so happy that God’s plan is SO MUCH GREATER than ours!
We really felt God calling us to adoption, so we started the process in January 2017. Just 3 cases in before we were even home-study ready, we were matched with birth-parents in Wichita, KS. We had no idea how much of our heart would reside in that city one day. Our son, Beckham, was born in September 2017 and we have an open adoption with his birth-parents. I always say Beckham is “our best yes” because I can’t imagine there being something better to give your “yes!” to.
In June of this year we decided we were ready to start the adoption process again. We took our time in finding a consulting agency that was right for us and began seeing cases immediately. Only 3 weeks, a home study that wasn’t renewed yet, and 7 cases later — we were matched with a birth-mom who is expecting a baby GIRL on December 5th! We are so excited to complete our family. We hit the ground running and still have about $25,000 to raise to reach our grand total of $46,000 by November 21st.
We are trusting and believing that God will provide and bring people into our lives that are willing to help and be “our village” during this time! Thank you for reading our story and being a part of our Village!
